Additional Services Available

  • Transportation:  The activity department schedules various outings throughout the month and provides transportation in our 20 passenger bus.  Spurgeon Manor also has a wheelchair chair accessible van, available by appointment for a fee.
  • Physician:  Dr. Ron McHose, D.O., who is located in Dallas Center, serves as our medical director and is available for consultation.  Residents may continue to see their own physician, but they must be seen in accordance with the state regulations. If the physician is not willing to visit Spurgeon Manor, it is the family's responsibility to take the resident to the doctor.
  • Podiatry: Dr. Erin Ward from Perry provides foot care on a quarterly basis.
  • Laboratory: Mercy Labs provide services when ordered by your physician.  Fees for these services will be billed to Medicare by the provider.
  • Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy:  Licensed therapists from RehabVisions provide services when ordered by your physician.
  • Optometry: The doctors from Eye Care Associates in Perry provides eye care on an as-needed basis.
  • Pharmacy: Residents can choose their own pharmacy.  For individuals living in ICF, the Stine Center, and RCF, the only restriction is that medications must come in a unit dose system, which assists in the accuracy of medication administration.
  • Social Services: The Social Services Director is available to help you and your family with issues related to admission, residency, and discharge planning.
  • Dietary:  Residents are served three nutritious, seasonal meals in attractive dining areas.  Guests are welcome to join residents for meals for a nominal fee.
  • Activities: Spurgeon Manor offers a wide variety of programming specifically designed for older adults.  You may enjoy exercise classes, Coffee Club, pet visits, ice-cream socials, “Do Good” Club opportunities to make a difference in the community, monthly Lunch Bunch outings, theme day events, Bingo, massages, music performances, or going out for a ride in our bus.  A calendar of activities is distributed to residents each month.  If any of your family members are interested in volunteering, contact the Activity Director!
  • Spiritual Care: Our Chaplain provides one-to-one pastoral care and holds a weekly Bible Study on Thursdays. Rosary and Communion are provided twice monthly for our Catholic residents. Ministers from Dallas Center and surrounding communities lead a hymn sing and worship service on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons.
  • Business Office: The Business Office is open Monday through Friday to accept payment for bills, gives change, and sell stamps. Residents can set up a personal account with the office from which cash amounts may be withdrawn.
  • Resident Council: Spurgeon Manor hosts a monthly Resident Council that is open to all residents residing in the ICF (long term care).  The purpose of the Council is to give residents opportunity to provide input into the decisions, procedures, and activities of the Manor that affect them.
  • Food Forum: This forum is held monthly for RCF residents.  Menus are reviewed, and ideas and recipes are shared.
  • Beauty Shop: Our licensed beautician provides haircuts, styling, permanents, and shampoos and sets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Charges for services are as follows: Haircut  $8.00   Shampoo and Set  $10.00    Permanents  $35.00
  • Housekeeping and Laundry: Both ICF and RCF rooms are cleaned daily by the housekeeping staff. They will also assist with hanging pictures and wall hangings.  Laundry is done in house and resident's clothing is marked with the resident’s name or initials to assist with proper return.
  • Wireless Internet: Free Internet access is available for our residents and their guests.

Please note that additional medical services ordered by a physician may be covered by Medicare.  If not, payment is the responsibility of the resident or responsible party.
